War Games:  Shall We Play A Game?

(immersive / interactive virtual event)

Producer & Immersive Experience Collaborator: Nako Adodoadji

Featuring work by the Emmy nominated emerging media artist, Lance Weiler, and designer, Takakki Okada, "War Games: Shall We Play A Game?" was a special virtual event exploring the cultural, political, and historical impact of the motion picture War Games.  With an expert panel of cyber officials and scholars, filmmakers and storytellers, this event gave the audience insight into cybersecurity and its relationship to Hollywood. Over the course of the event, audiences were immersed within the world of WarGames, taking a deep dive into the making of the film, its influence on hacker culture, and its impact on the current state of cybersecurity.

DEFRAG, a unique film festival at Columbia University with a focus on hacker culture, digital literacy, storytelling and emerging media, is the collaborative effort between Senior Research Scholar, Jason Healey (School of International and Public Affairs), and filmmaker and emerging media artist, Lance Weiler (School of the Arts), who are both inspired by the broader impact of advancements in technology and its uses in every aspect of our lives — from our cultural, social and medical ecosystems to our political, military and economic institutions.
